I received this email below for the Christmas season 2006 telling me how Veggie Tales knows that the true meaning of Christmas is not about "getting stuff." Hey, that's a nice message I guess...
Then you scan down the entire email and there's all this "stuff" you're supposed to buy your kids. I mean talk about obvious hypocrisy.
If Christian Commercialism were honest they would just say "Buy our stuff, it's holier than the secular stuff."
I am not against commercialism, I love the free market. And I'm not against a little marketing embellishment, but this mixing of commercialism with religion just shows how far Christianity has gotten from it's roots of a poor Hippie walking around in poverty supposedly healing everyone. I don't think Christmas greed is bad--on a personal level it might be--for the economy as a whole it is good; but give me a break Veggie Tales, you're full of shit.
This is pure commercialistic greed. Just own up to it. I make no apologies about wanting to make money myself. You seem to want to hide the fact that you need kids to skip over the "true meaning of xmas" and have them beg mommy and daddy for "stuff." Including your goddamn stuff! |

| The weird thing about all this is I've watched the Veggie Tales and thought they were rather enjoyable for children's programming, regardless of the fused religious messages. Why does there have to be anything moral about selling these products because this Email Ad is really a moral trick. It's saying we know the true meaning of Christmas is not "getting" but buy our stuff anyways. If Christians would just ditch the false morality I might even consider buying a DVD or two just to enjoy the animation. |
