PENN JILLETTE GETS A COPY OF FREETHUNK BOOK
Yes, this is shameless promotion but it's also kind of funny.

Penn Jillette gets a copy of Jeff Swenson's Freethunk book Penn Jillette gets a copy of Freethunk after the magic show I didn't think she'd do it, but my wife grabbed a proof copy of Freethunk, The Complete Edition before she left for her Vegas trip with her parents.

After attending the Penn & Teller Magic Show she got in line to meet them as the two entertainers have always been gracious about giving out autographs and allowing photos and handed him a copy telling him that I was a fan and was unable to attend.

So Penn Jillette was ambushed with a copy of Freethunk and yes he was very nice about receiving it as I'm sure he gets handed a ton of fan material at these after show gatherings. Most likely it is now sitting in a box in his garage with his other fan items.

The funny part of it is that my wife is not an atheist, more like a lapsed Catholic. Her parents are definitely Catholic and have never approved of me being an atheist. So when she handed Penn this book her mom was asking, "What is that? What you give to him?" And my wife just said, "Nothing Mom" and proceeded to tell the tall man of magic what a geek fan I was of his. Her parents are still not aware that Penn was slipped a book on atheism and freethinking humor right in front of them.

I think originally my Mother-in-law didn't want to see the Vegas show because she thought Penn might do a show on atheism and she wasn't having any of that. Penn isn't that stupid, he knows he can't alienate everyone who comes to Sin City. It was magic and fun and a little commentary on our freedoms with the flag burning routine. Although, I was told there was a trick involving a nail gun where Penn made a reference to Jesus that was in poor taste; not everyone in the audience got it.

So, just another shameless plug for the book. I wish I had had another copy for Teller, but just getting one to Penn was lucky enough. I'll have to try a second ambush attempt in the future.
