The God Family might work just like a real family
| The emphasis on Family Church or Brothers and Sisters in Christ is really a bad way of promoting the Christian religion. Everyone knows that sisters and brothers snitch on each other to Dad, or in this case God the Father. And not only that, brothers and sisters use "sins" against each other to further their own positions in the family. But realistically speaking, what happens in Church is that "sin" is fodder for gossip and Church people love to gossip about their sisters and brothers. I remember my volunteer experiences with Church and how no one ever approached me face to face about my supposed mistakes or sins. I found out through someone telling on me to the Pastor or to the Youth Pastor who was overseeing me helping out with the Junior High classes. Yes, I was a counterculture Jesus Freak of the early nineties variety, but one with good intentions. Mainstream America always interfered with people's ability to separate Christianity from contemporary standards of dress and teaching methodology. I didn't understand it as well as I do now; that Christianity conforms to an evolving culture. There is no true church, only a community of like-minded individuals agreeing upon their idea of God and whatever lifestyle makes them comfortable. The other thing that bothers me about "brothers and sisters in Christ" is that it is pretty incestuous. I guess the concept is to make you feel guilty for imagining your sister in Christ naked. |
